Building An Effective And Enjoyable Work Environment
An effective work environment is vital to the success of
small businesses and large corporations alike. When
problems remain unsolved and rules never get implemented,
the result can be an unproductive staff and a stale work
environment.
People working together with a common denominator will
accomplish tasks with greater ease and have higher
expectations of themselves and their work. A positive work
environment is critical no matter how many employees you
have. It is management that fosters the work atmosphere
so they are responsible for conducting things in a way that
helps raise people's spirits. There are four basic beliefs:
hope, trust, pleasure, and opportunity that help create a
positive work environment.
Hope
Trust can only be cultivated when boundaries are
established. When people have the freedom to make
decisions, take some risks, and feel free to tell others
what is on their mind, then trust is at least possible.
Obligations and responsibilities will make sure they remain
honest and accountable.
Chaos is created with petty rules. A productive and
professional employee is molded by the boundaries set
before them. Strict and unyielding rules that leave little
to no room for personal judgment and ownership of one's
work can only destroy motivation and ultimately decrease
productivity.
Trust
In an establishment that trusts its employees, people will
make the ultimate sacrifice to assist their company in
succeeding. Praise goes along way in our personal and
professional life.
Optimism will help a group thrive by fueling the
aspirations of employees for achievement. The best
employees seem to thrive off of the praise they receive
when they tackle a tough problem and see it through to
resolution.
When a company trusts its employees, those workers are far
more likely to make sacrifices to help the company through
difficult times. A kind word here and there goes a long
way in both the professional and person spheres of
influence.
Pleasure
Enjoyment
You can be focused and relaxed at the same time so long as
you have a little confidence. By combining effective
communication with clearly defined goals, the team will be
most willing to cooperate towards achieving common goals.
It is possible to be intense and relaxed at the same time.
All that you need is a little confidence. A combination of
clear goals and communication will set an inner peace on
fire and encourage your team to engage.
Opportunity
You have to be able to relate with your workers when you
are a business owner so that you understand what is
important to them. Asking them where they envision
themselves in the future is a great way to find out
what motivates them. If you offer employees the
opportunity for advancement, then they are more likely to
say that they will still be working for you. Promoting
from within is always a good idea as it motivates people to
want to do their best so that they can make it to the
next level.
Corporations and small businesses need to evaluate their
work environment on a regular basis. This eliminates the
chance of lawsuits and the loss of valuable assets.
Recognize that your employee has value in your business,
and look closely at your total work environment.
Opportunity
People generally need some sort of challenge to motivate
themselves. Effective leadership means offering people the
chance to grow. Recognize their contribution with positive
feedback, raises, and advancement to more challenging
positions. People who are willing to expand into new things
while working with a diverse set of co-workers will learn
new roles and expand their view of the world. These people
may be few and far between, but they enrich the work
environment and contribute to a stronger organization.
As leader, you are empowered with the ability to inspire
people and increase their productivity. By generating an
atmosphere that is conducive to trust, hope, pleasure, and
the potential for personal growth, you are creating a more
powerful team and cultivating future leaders at the same
time.
As a leader, you have the power to influence people and to
increase their performance. Creating an environment that
encourages trust, optimism, enjoyment, and personal growth
will build a sustainable, high-performing team, creating
many new leaders in the process.
